You’ve heard it before and you’ve heard it a lot, but really, what is an antioxidant and why is it so important for us?
Antioxidants have often been explained to us using jargon only few would probably have the time to pay close attention to. But to put it simply, antioxidants are chemical substances mostly obtained from fruits and vegetables that help protect our cells from damage brought by environmental and personal factors such as stress, smoking, pollution, etc. They have been shown to prevent all kinds of diseases, including cancer.
But because people nowadays are uncontrollably resorting to unhealthy lifestyles with the presence of too much junk food high in artificial preservatives and other chemicals that can be harmful to health, the consumption of fruits and vegetables have somewhat taken a backseat. This explains why other food manufacturers are now taking advantage of introducing new foods that contain antioxidants to capture the attention of the consuming public.
In essence, antioxidants, when taken into the human body through the foods we eat, help slow down or at best prevent the oxidation of molecules in our body. This frees us from potentially experiencing oxidative stress or damage which can lead to various illnesses such as cancer and other health problems.
And because of that, many health experts advise us to eat more fruits and vegetables to get the right amount of antioxidants in our body. One such food that is high in antioxidants is organic acai, a purple-colored fruit that originally existed hundreds of years ago in the land of the Amazon River.
Acai Berry is now featured in several health foods and supplements after it yielded a number of health benefits as asserted by many of its users. Such benefits include strengthening of our immune system that protects us from common illnesses and the promotion of healthy and supple skin, among others. Organic acai berry in particular is lauded for its all-natural elements and, in our opinion, should be part of everyone’s daily lifestyle!
